The female artists that were part of the pre-war avant-guard art movement known as the Vorticists were often overlooked, according to painter Biddy Peppin, a relative of Helen Saunders, one of the women involved.

Speaking to Today reporter Sanchia Berg as an exhibition opens at the Tate highlighting their work, she said the artists, who included Saunders, Dorothy Shakespear and Jessica Dismorr, were not merely "padding" but were experienced artists in their own right.
