The government says it will legislate in response to the confusion caused over police bail in the case of the murder suspect Paul Hookway.

Joseph Kotrie-Monson, who speaks for Paul Hookway's solicitors Mary Monson Solicitors, said there was "no confusion" in the case.

"The police have begun to abuse the situation... so they can actually keep people on bail for very long periods of time without new evidence," he said.
