The UK's decision to recognise the rebels in Libya is being called into question, following the death of rebel military leader Abdel Fattah Younes.

Reporting from the country, Ian Pannell said that the war is "not exactly a stalemate, but one of very slow incremental advance... there's certainly no momentum to the rebels".

The decision to officially recognise the Libyan rebels, was "naive in the extreme and smacking of desperation," according to Telegraph columnist Con Coghlin.

The rebels are "in complete disarray", he told John Humphrys.

But the decision to recognise the rebels was the right one, and was taken with "due diligence", according to Richard Ottoway MP.

"You don't have smooth battles," he said.
