Around 200 tonnes of oil has leaked from Shell's Gannett Alpha platform into the North Sea since last week, in what has been the largest spill there for more than ten years.

Glen Cayley, technical director of Shell's exploration and production activities in Europe, explains why "it took some time to understand exactly what we were dealing with".
