There is a lull in the battle for the the Libyan capital, Tripoli, as both the Gaddafi regime and opposition forces claim they are in control of large parts of the city.

Overnight Col Gaddafi's son, Saif al-Islam, previously thought to have been captured by the opposition, appeared on the city's streets and told the BBC his father is safe and well and still in Tripoli.

The BBC's Matthew Price, who is in a hotel in the city centre, said that it was "eerily quiet", while Nato spokesman Col Roland Lavoie insisted that "globally speaking it is clear… The Gaddafi regime has lost its grip on the capital."
