The competition is heating up to be crowned the base for the world's biggest radio telescope, the Square Kilometre Array, with two rival bids - in southern Africa and Australia's Western Desert - have emerged as front runners.
The headquarters of the telescope, which will dramatically improve our view and understanding of the universe, is to be based in the UK.
