The Guardian newspaper is reporting this morning that Mark Duggan - the man whose shooting triggered the August riots - was not holding a gun at the time he was shot.

Home affairs correspondent Danny Shaw explains that the IPCC has found "overwhelming evidence" that Mark Duggan did obtain a firearm on the day he died which he carried in a sock hidden in a shoebox.

Danny Shaw says that this new information "doesn't prove either way that Mark Duggan was armed or unarmed when he was shot" but simply shows that the gun wasn't found right next to him. What is important, he adds, is "what was in the mind of the policemen at the time they opened fire".
