According to a survey from the charity Scope, most disabled people think the Paralympic Games should become a part of the Olympics rather than be held separately as they always have been.

Scope chief executive Richard Hawkes believes that the results of the survey show that combining both events would give the opportunity for disabled athletes to compete on the same stage as non-disabled athletes and it would also be a good opportunity to "look at the legacy that the paralympics leave".

Disabled basketball player and Olympic silver medallist Dan Johnson disagrees and says that disabled athletes see the Olympics as the "curtain raiser" to the Paralympics. He adds that if both events were combined there could be a danger that some paralympic events would be "marginalised".
