The government is announcing a new strategy to support the life sciences in the UK.

There are currently 360 good ideas "sitting in research institutes", waiting to pass a proof of commercial viability "valley of death" Universities and Science Minister David Willetts told the Today programme.

"There should be a very clear route from the idea… to the application" in pharmaceutical research, he said.
