Some 4,000 children evacuated from Basque Country to the UK in 1937 during Civil War where people power triumphed over government inaction when churches, cooperatives and members of the Communist party helped organise the transfer of children to the UK.

The British Government was not involved as it wanted to remain as neutral as possible.
