Despite the troubled economy, figures out next year from the Society of London Theatres, which represents 52 theatres, are likely to show that box office takings in 2011 were more than half a billion pounds.

But there are concerns that those figures will be affected by the Olympics next year and Andrew Lloyd Webber has warned of a "bloodbath" of a summer in the West End.
