What should the relationship be between the police and journalists?

John O'Connor, former Commander and head of the flying squad at Scotland yard, says there needs to be more control on police officers and private reporters but he believes there is a concern that a too formal relationship could lead to the "isolation" of the police.

He says he sees nothing wrong with two groups of people working with the same raw material and then sharing the information.

Stewart Tendler, former crime correspondent for the Times, agrees that there should be more "transparency" but there should nt be notes kept at every meeting as has been suggested.
