Michelle Obama has said she is tired of being labelled as an angry black woman. She was reacting to comments in a new book The Obamas by Jodi Kantor.

Journalist and blogger Bim Adewunmi says that once you are labelled with being an angry black women it is very hard to "shake it off". As soon as you express something in a clear assertive way, she says, people tend to "role their eyes".

Catherine Mayer, the London bureau chief for Time Magazine, believes there is a definite overlap between the experience of white and black women. If you react against perceived sexism or prejudice with anger, she says, its often perceived as being the wrong "post-feminist thing to do".

She adds that Michelle Obama is the "lightning conductor" for Barack, and is therefore a very easy target to being labelled and angry black woman.
