The proprietor of the Daily Express, Richard Desmond, told the Leveson inquiry this week that he didn't really know what the word "ethics" meant.

Chris Blackhurst, editor of the Independent, believes that Lord Leveson has got it wrong in thinking that journalists spend their time "agonising over ethics". Both Kelvin Mackenzie and Richard Desmond know about right or wrong he adds.

Trevor Kavanagh, associate editor of the Sun, agrees with Chris Blackhurst that journalists don't sit around anguishing about ethics but do anguish, he says, about "getting it right", which is the "crust" of what newspapers are about.
