The government is to reduce the number of qualifications included in school league tables in England by removing GCSE status from 94% of the vocational qualifications currently taken by English students.

It is as a result of Prof Alison Wolf's report of last year where she recommended a wholesale overhaul of vocational education.

She said the system is failing far too many children in basic skills with a fifth of all 16 to 19-year-olds leave school with poor literacy and numeracy and do not catch up in further education.

The Today programme's Sanchia Berg has been to one further education college to talk to students taking so-called "entry level" courses.
