The first major show in London of British artist David Shrigley is opening at London's Hayward Gallery. See some of the sculptures, paintings and drawings on display.
Shrigley's work, like Boots (2010) is characterised by its quirky humour.
He established himself as a cartoonist before branching out into other forms.
Much of his output is inspired by dadaist artists like Marcel Duchamp...
... and often combines the creative and the absurd.
Animals are a regular feature of Shrigley's output...
... coming in a variety of forms, like this stuffed and decapitated ostrich.
Even though he is renowned for his humour, some of Shrigley's works exhibit both bleakness and morbidity.
Educated at art school, Shrigley admits "I just reached a decision that I wanted to draw in a way that contained no craft at all."
David Shrigley: Brain Activity, is at the Hayward Gallery until 13 May.
