Elderly patients are suffering a "diminished quality of life" because social care funding pressures mean services are being reduced, the cross-party Commons health select committee warned today.

Richard Humphries, senior fellow at the Health think tank the Kings Fund, says there needs to be "greater urgency" for local health and care commissioners to get round the table to sort out social care funding.

There is a general consensus, he points out, that the current system of funding social care is "broken".
