UK Music, the organisation that represents the commercial industry, is launching a diversity charter, calling for more minority representation in the music industry.

Vanessa Reed, executive director of the Performing Rights Society for Music Foundation, says that only 16% of applications to PRS for new music commissions have been coming from women composers. We're not just "moaning" about the statistics, she adds, but doing something "constructive" to reach female composers.

Oliver Condy, editor of BBC Music Magazine, takes a more cautious approach to the issue as he believes that women composers aren't branded as such anymore. They used to be "patronised", he adds, but now we need to see composers as "one group".
