As the violence in Syria continues, on the UN General Assembly is to debate on Monday what should be done next.

Jim Muir reports from Beirut.

Sir Emyr Jones Parry, former British ambassador to Nato and to the UN, says there is a certain amount of "disillusion and contempt" in the UN for the position Russia and China took.

He explains that the problem with allowing too many concessions for Russia and China is that it could lead to such a diluted resolution that it "wouldn't be worth it".

Sir Emyr says he has "no sympathy whatsoever" for Russia and China as he believes they have diminished the status of the Security Council.
