The government is under more pressure than ever to drop the health bill, it finds itself having to decide whether to take more risks moving forwards with the reform, or to unwind the changes which it has already started implementing.

Hamish Meldrum, chair of the BMA, says the health bill has gone "too far down the wrong road", with a focus on too much "marketisation and competition" rather than "integration and collaboration". He is not against the reform per se, but believes it is not the right time for a "massive restructural upheaval" at a time where the health service is meeting huge financial pressure.

Ken Aswani, a GP involved in the NHS Alliance, disagrees and believes there needs to be less of a focus on the structural changes to the organisation but rather the changes in terms of delivery to the patient.
