Iron Sky, a film spoof based on the idea that the Nazis fled earth in 1945 to set up a colony on the far side of the moon, only to returning to earth to seek domination once again in 2018, has been a surprise hit of the Berlin Film Festival.

Comedian Rainer Hersch said that the film's success showed the German people were now able to regard characters such as Hitler and Goebbels "as caricatures" with comedic potential.

However, historian Timony Garton Ash noted that while Germans may feel more at ease with their history, they are still "reluctant to lead" in modern politics, including the Eurozone's troubles.
