Seventy-five-year-old singer Engelbert Humperdinck has been announced as Great Britain's entrant in this year's Eurovision Song Contest.

Broadcaster Paul Gambaccini told Today presenter Sarah Montague that the decision was a "coup" of "fantastic imagination".

The decision was "tactical" he said - the votes for trendy young artists will be fragmented so "why not go for the geezer vote".

"It's the most brilliant stroke since we last won with Katrina and the Waves."
