Former United Nations Deputy Secretary General Lord Malloch-Brown has said there is "no turning back" from the policy of regime change in Syria.

The International Committee of the Red Cross is hoping to get urgently needed food and medical aid to the worst affected district of Homs, after it was reported that the Free Syrian Army has withdrawal from the from the city.

Lord Malloch-Brown told the Today programme's John Humphrys that "in a strange, perverse way" the end of military action in Homs "creates space for the UN to re-engage".

He maintained that if the Syrian regime now unleashes revenge killings in Homs they are "digging their own political grave even deeper".
