"Nothing has changed" in the opposition to the controversial Health and Social Care bill, the chair of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) has insisted, despite writing to the prime minister asking to work with the government on it.

Dr Clare Gerada insisted that they are still asking for a withdrawal from a "flawed" and "complicated" bill but they want to work with government in order to "stabilise the NHS" and "find a way through this".

She went on to say that this letter was part of a series of letters written to ministers in which they say that the debate around reforms to the health system has become "too polarised, ideological and political".

"There is no evidence that this bill is required", she told the Today programme's John Humphrys.
