Now you wouldn't expect a jazz fan, let alone a jazz musician to accuse jazz of being irrelevant, backward looking and snobbish.

But that's exactly what the American pianist and band leader Robert Glasper thinks.

And he believes that for jazz to survive and thrive in the future it has to incorporate modern music, like hip hop, rock and pop.

Robert Glasper is performing here in the UK next month on a tour which starts in Norwich (and then moves to London, Leeds and Warwick) and arts correspondent Rebecca Jones has been speaking to him.
