The last flight by troubled airline Kingfisher is to depart from Delhi today bound for Heathrow.

The airline set up by the flamboyant tycoon Vijay Mallya who's also the man behind Kingfisher lager but is weighed down by debts of £800m so the airline has had to cease all international flights.

Laurie Price, director of Aviation Strategy at Mott Macdonald, told the Today programme's Simon Jack that over-expansion was an issue.

But he also pointed out that fuel getting up to $150 a barrel "will haemorrhage cash" and have a serious impact as seen with low cost airlines like Ryanair having to ground flights.

The airline industry "attracts colourful characters but it is economics, not ego, that comes out," he said.

He also pointed out that airlines around the world are falling by the wayside.
