According to a report by the Royal Society for Arts, police officers should be given 20 minutes a week to think about decisions they have made on duty.

The report's author, Dr Jonathan Rowson, told the Today programme's Evan Davis that police officers recognise the challenge of "being the tough guys but also communicating with the public".

Police find a weekly talk "refreshing", he said, because they recognise that "every officer has to take decisions and by speaking together they find a common language".
