A spokesman for Bahrain's Information Affairs Authority has said that anti-government protestors are free to demonstrate on the streets of the country despite a damning report from Amnesty International which said that the security forces in the Gulf state are still abusing human rights.

Fahad al-Binali was speaking ahead of the Bahrain Formula 1 Grand Prix on Sunday.

Mr al-Binali insisted that unless protestors are using the likes of Molotov cocktails, or disrupting commercial areas, they will not be interfered with by police.

He said that the authorities "acknowledged its mistakes and took immediate action" following unrest last year.
