A lawyer representing a Libyan military commander who has served a legal claim on the former Foreign Secretary Jack Straw has said that they are seeking "a public acceptance of wrongs that were done".

Mr Straw was foreign secretary when Abdul Hakim Belhaj says he and his wife were flown to Libya against their will in 2004 by the CIA on the basis of British intelligence.

Sapna Malik, the lawyer representing Abdul Hakim Belhaj, told the Today programme's Evan Davis that while "damages may be sought in due course", financial compensation was not their focus.

She said that her client would also be suing the government and the head of counter terrorism at MI6 at the time and denied that the move was a publicity stunt.
