The government will publish its long-awaited draft energy bill is expected to outline long-term contracts to encourage investment in nuclear and renewable energy.

Dr David Toke, senior lecturer in Energy Policy at the University of Birmingham, told the Today programme that nuclear energy in the UK is a "dead duck" that cannot be resurrected.

Nuclear power is "very uncompetitive", he said, and would be "impossible to sell to investors" unless the government signs a blank cheque.
