When it formed, the coalition created a new organisation called the Office for Budget Responsibility, whose job is to tell the government whether its fiscal policy is on track.

The man in charge of the OBR, Robert Chote, told the Today programme that they are not "betting the farm" on the UK economy "nor requiring people to believe that you have to accept our view of how the economy will turn out".
