The government has scaled back its plans to allow secret proceedings in some civil court cases.

Lord Macdonald, former Director of Public Prosecutions, told the Today programme that the changes presented in the Justice and Security Bill "are certainly improvements that are very welcome", but he believes there are still "major problems" that have not been addressed.

The bill "still contains much that's offensive to our traditional notions" of justice, he says.
