Councils in London have been re-housing people long distances away to shorten their housing waiting lists. The policy has been called "social cleansing".

Last week the Today programme learned that the East London borough of Waltham Forest was suspending the policy.

The BBC's Nicola Stanbridge went to meet some members of the 14 households that have been moved from Waltham Forest to Luton, who contacted the programme.

Adam, one of the men who was made to move, said "they didn't talk it though with us... they moved us away from our family and disregarded all of our local connections".

A mother who now has a four hour commute to school and work said that her children were "devastated". She said she had to keep going, "just for the sake of the kids".
