Ray Bradbury, one of the great short story writers of the twentieth century, died this week age 91.
Science fiction writer Brian Aldiss described him as a teller of "technological fairytales".
He told the Today programme that Bradbury would often write down his thoughts when he woke up early in the morning, meaning he was "in touch with his subconscious".
"If you're a writer that's the way we live," he said.
