As EU ministers meet to discuss fishing policy, fisheries minister Richard Benyon has said the UK will push for the end of the policy which sees edible fish discarded overboard "as soon as possible".

Currently, fish quotas mean nearly one in every 10 fish caught is thrown back, dead or dying.

"Britain is at the forefront of calling for radical reform," Mr Benyon told James Naughtie.

Chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall, who is part of the Fish Fight campaign, argued that there needs to be more "rewards" for sustainable methods of fishing.

"The methods that have been proved successful have not been fully adopted by the industry," he told the Today programme.
