The probation inspectorate have criticised the system of electronic tagging of offenders in England and Wales.

Justice minister Crispin Blunt believes the current system is "binary and inflexible".

New proposals, he explains, will give someone a tag that will tell the probation service where offenders are all the time and will make it possible to be "much more creative in our observance of offenders".

This will be a "game-changer" and a "real benefit for public protection", he told the Today programme.
