The Syriza party, which rejected the bailout terms and came a close second in the Greek general election, said it would lead the opposition.

Syriza politician George Stathakis told the Today programme that they will support a renegotiation by the New Democracy party of the EU bailout deal.

"We need a new deal, a very different deal in the case of Syriza," he said. "Something has to happen as the existing deal is very difficult to be applied in reality", he told John Humphrys.
