The BBC has learnt that there are growing concerns in government about the fairness and affordability of the Dilnot proposals for funding social care.

Home affairs editor Mark Easton says there is an "equity point" at issue, and concerns that the politics and the economics "don't add up".

Shadow health secretary Andy Burnham says he hopes the reports "are not accurate" as the proposals are an "important first step towards a fairer system".

He told the Today programme he is "desperate" to see the talks on the Dilnot proposals succeed.

"Leaving the current, flawed, system in place is the worst of all possible worlds," he told Justin Webb.
