A report coming out today says there are too many specialist units for children with serious heart problems and some of them should be shut down.
Up to four units across England will be told to stop carrying out surgery today. However, they won't be closed altogether and will still carry out diagnoses, providing care to children after their operations.
Steph Ward, whose son has a congenital heart condition, told the Today programme that in Leeds where her son was treated there is a "gold standard of service".
"We don't need to move, we don't need to go anywhere else... the thought that that might go is very difficult," she said.
Professor Ian Kennedy, who led the report, says the aim is to expand and reorganise services.
"Nothing is being closed as I understand it... what is happening is change," he told John Humphrys, "change is required, expansion is required... with more nurses, more doctors closer to home."
