Torrential rain has been causing disruption as a month's rain fell in parts of the UK within one day yesterday. The number of flood warnings - meaning flooding is expected - reached more than 60 in England, and 145 flood alerts were in place across the UK.

Many events planned for today have been affected including the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, where the car parks have been flooded, leading the organisers to ask tens of thousands of spectators to stay away from today's qualifying round.

Flood Risk Manager, Pete Fox from the Environment Agency said that "lessons are being learned and we are getting better at providing warnings". He added that the UK is "in a cycle" of bad weather where it is essential to "ensure that damage to property is minimised".
