There is new guidance for doctors across the UK today from the General Medical Council on child abuse, saying GPs should raise the alarm if they suspect that a child or young person is at risk, or is suffering harm.

It is the first time that such advice has been given. Professor Sir Peter Rubin, who chairs the GMC, outlines the new advice.
