American entrepreneur Andrew Paulson has persuaded the international governing body of chess to give him the media and marketing rights to the world championships. He plans to increase audience participation in the game.
"The audience will be able to predict moves on their tablets," he told the Today programme.
Jonathan Rowson, Grand Master and former British chess champion, believes the game's "charm is in the challenge" and is hopeful for its potential wider appeal.
