Scientists are warning that a nasty virus affecting cows and sheep called the Schmallenberg virus could spread across the UK.

Nigel Gibbens, chief veterinary officer of the UK, explained that the virus has been spread by midges and that, although vaccines are in production, they are not available yet.

Charles Sercombe, a sheep farmer in Leicestershire, told the Today programme there is concern amongst the farming community.

He explained that they are worried the vaccine will not be ready in time for the "key gestation period" of the sheep in the Autumn.
