The Public Administration Select Committee says too many honours are being awarded to politicians, celebrities, and civil servants rather than people who devote themselves to helping their local communities.

Bernard Jenkin, the chairman of the committee, said there is a "balance to be struck" in the honours system as he believes there is a strong feeling that ordinary people in the local community "get overlooked" in the honours list.

He told the Today programme that it looks like the honours list is "a collage put together to look right".
