There has been a ceremony to mark America transferring control of the controversial Bagram prison to the Afghan government.

The handover was agreed back in March and is seen as an important step towards the recognition of Afghan national sovereignty, but there is some controversy as America wants to keep control over part of the prison.

Hekmat Karzai, director of the Centre for Conflict and Peace Studies in Kabul, said that there are still "significant challenges and disagreements that remain that need to be worked out in the future".

He explains that Afghans do not want Bagran to become "Guantanamo's twin" and therefore are likely to release prisoners "within the next few months".
