The chief executive at Rochdale Council, Jim Taylor, has accepted that the council and other organisations "could have done more" to protect 50 children being sexually abused in Rochdale.

"The review clearly highlights all agencies did not work together adequately," he told the Today programme.

Mr Taylor shared his "deep regret" and admitted "there was more that could and should have been done to protect the victims."

An inquiry into what happened is currently underway.

"Unacceptable practice is being investigated and dealt with in line with our procedures," he confirmed.
