People across England and Wales - excluding London - are preparing to vote for the first ever police and crime commissioners (PCC).

Home Secretary Theresa May says that after the PCC elections, the police can still make arrests without fear or favour and will retain their independence.

She was also questioned about her expected statement in the House of Commons about allegations of paedophilia in North Wales.

She said: "Given the nature of concerns... we need [to ensure] what was done in the past covered everything it needed to do."

The Waterhouse Inquiry into abuse at the Bryn Estyn children's home was published in 2000.

Reacting to this part of the interview, BBC political editor Nick Robinson said: "Theresa May bizarrely unable to explain why she is launching a new inquiry into child abuse in North Wales."
