A charity has given £10,000 to a project to restore canals at Droitwich in Worcestershire. The money is to be spent on improvements to a newly-cut 1.5-mile (2.4km) stretch of the Droitwich Junction Canal. Volunteers are wanted to help plant trees and build bird boxes. The project is part of an £11.5m scheme to reconnect Droitwich's junction and barge canals with the rest of the national network. The grant is from the GreenPrints campaign, a not-for-profit organisation which gives funding and support for projects which encourage young people to improve green spaces. Families are wanted to take part in the next bird-box building day on 19 August at Chawson Lane Community Centre and the under-25s are asked to volunteer for a tree planting day on 5 December.
