Identity theft
BBC Radio 4's Law in Action was broadcast on Friday, 21 October, 2005 at 1600 BST.

This week is National Identity Fraud Week. Identity fraud is where someone literally steals your identity and this week the Metropolitan Police have launched a major campaign to alert people to the threat. ID theft is one of the fastest growing areas of fraudulent activity in the country and it is estimated that 1.3 billion pounds is lost yearly to this crime. So what is the law doing to protect us all from this growing problem?

We sent our reporter Mayo Ogunlabi to find out more. She talks to a victim of ID fraud, Amberina Hasan. In Amberina's case it was her own boss who stole her identity and a lot more...
