The CPE should not be an issue. When I, as an employer, hire and train someone, my goal is not to fire them. I understand students who feel economically insecure, but they have no realistic idea of how companies work and the difficulty they face to recruit and hold people.

What is missing is a partnership between academia and the world of work.
